[doddimp.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 14, Ed. 1, Tree #0434, Date of Import: Apr 15, 2001] Edward Buckner and Isabella Very little is known about Edward and Isabella Buckner. Articles about the Buncombe County, North Carolina, Buckner families in the two volumes of "Old Buncombe" state that Edward and Isabella Buckner were the parents of Henry Buckner, the founder of the Buncombe line, and that Henry was born about 1735 in Caroline County, Virginia; probably on a plantation called "The Neck". It is also very likely that they were the parents of Jesse Buckner who founded the Chatham County, North Carolina, branch of the family. Jesse's will was proved in Chatham County in May of 1826 and showed his sons to be Jesse, Nathaniel, John, Richard, Elisha, William and Edward. These names are repeated in the Buncombe County family branch and most had their origin in the original Caroline County family. Four Buckner brothers were the founders of the Caroline County branch of the family who lived on "The Neck": Richard, Philip, John and William. One of these would have been the ancestor of someone in a later generation having a forefather in Caroline County. As the children of Richard, Philip and William are fairly well known from wills or other records it is probable that Edward was one of John's sons. Only two of John's sons are definitely known but according to family tradition he and his wife Sarah had others. One of the two known sons, Thomas, was born in Curratuck County, North Carolina. The other, Philip, was born in Caroline County, Virginia, and later settled in Kentucky. The fact that Thomas was born in North Carolina gives further support to Edward being his brother since Edward's sons founded North Carolina families; at least a North Carolina connection is provided. Nothing more is known about Edward and Isabella Buckner. It is possible that they may have moved with their sons Henry and Jesse as the two made their way from Virginia into North Carolina; Henry's son John was born in 1765 in Charlotte County, Virginia; his son Jesse was born in 1769 in Sussex County, Virginia; and by 1779 Henry and his family were living in Randolph County, North Carolina. The elder Jesse, Edward's son and Henry's brother, would have been in Chatham County about the same time.
