Notes about Andrew Donnally Heaton

[dodd.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #1073, Date of Import: Apr 18, 2001] Andrew Donnally Heaton, son of James and Mary Cozad Heaton was born near Hemlock Grove, Bedford Township, Meigs County, Ohio on 23 December 1848. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. For many years he was the class leader at the West Shade Church. Andrew was too young to enlist during the Civil War but being an industrious and obedient boy was of great service and help to his father James Heaton in the work on the farm. As the war progressed he began to speak of the time he might also enlist as his brother Charles who was seven years older had done, but the war ended too soon for that. He remained on the old home farm for many years following the war, and developed great skill in farm work and management, being in partnership with his father, and sharing the profits with him. On 23 December 1875 Andrew Donnally Heaton married Laura Amanda Watkins, the only child of James Edward Watkins and wife of West Shade. Andrew and Amanda Watkins Heaton had two children, James Ernest Heaton, and Amanda Jennie Heaton. Laura was born on her parents farm in Meigs County, Ohio on 7 June 1852. There the couple and their family made their home until his death on 6 March 1924 at the age of 75. His wife Amanda Watkins Heaton continued to live on the old home farm where she was born until her death. After his marriage Andrew Donnally Heaton was in a business partnership with his father-in-law in the work and management of the Watkins farm that contained 275 acres. He became well known as a prominent and well-to-do citizen of Meigs County. Andrew Donnally Heaton died on 6 March 1924 in Meigs County, Ohio. Laura Amanda Watkins Heaton died after 1942. bib: Charles S.
