In de Kroniek wordt in 1334 ene Ghysonede Brylaer genoemd. Ghyse wordt beleend met Byler zoals zijn vader Heyn te halden placht. In 1382 wordt ene Tydeman van Bylaer beleend met Achtevelde. In 1399 wordt diens zoon Rijcolt na opdracht van zijn vader beleend met ten Bylaer. Ghise kwam uit een oud burgemeestersgeslacht te Amersfoort. In 1380 is er ook sprake van ene Melis van Bijlaere.
