Hij stierf in 1492 toen hij Aighton van Sir Edward Stanley, de opvolger van Harrington, hield door de huur van 60 s; ook verschillende andere landhuizen en landhuizen. Eeuwen later kwam Cromwell met zijn strijdkracht, op zoek naar de hertog van Hamilton, op 16 augustus 's nachts naar het huis van meneer Shirburne, genaamd Stonyhurst, over Hodder Water, waar de generaal die nacht logeerde en zijn leger kampeerde in het park. Had die oorlogsraad die avond waarin besloten werd de hertog te bevechten als hij zou blijven. Na zijn overwinning op de Schotten bleef hij opnieuw een nacht in Stonyhurst.
