Notes about Jan Nicolaas Schott
Hij kwam naar Arnhem als militair "Ruiter in de Compagnie van Ritmeester van Eck". Vestigde zich op 22-09-1715 te Arnhem, woonde ook in Zevenaar en in Namen. . Hij vestigde zich tenslotte in Bergen op Zoom als Korporaal-schoenmaker, maar hij werd met zijn zoon Pieter op 15-09-1735 aangeklaagd door het gilde. Hij verkoopt zijn huis "In de fluwelen broek" aan de sant Molenstraat (Zuidmolenstraat?) op 28-03-1737. Bron:S.J Schot, Bergs kwartierstatenboek. Wel was Niklaas Schot in 1737 gezworene van het schoenmakersgilde.
Hij was ook tijdelijk terug in Braunfels na zijn huwelijk met Huibertje Schrijvers. Volgens het doopboek van Braunfels werd daar Johannes Schott geboren op 21-04-1709 met als ouders: Vader Joh. Niclas, Schuhmacher en Moeder: Heibertgen(!)
Hij verzocht de magistraat van Bergen op Zoom hem toe te laten als burger en poorter van de stad met een d.d.19 juni 1736: Geeft in alle onderdanigheyt te kennen Nicolaas Schot gewezene corporaal van de artillerie volgens deszelfs paspoort van 16 juny 1736 ten desen annex, dat hij suppliant en hebbende vier kinderen, waervan geen alhier zijn geboren, dog twee van deselve zijn in dienst, de derde sijnde een schoenmaker van zijn ambacht en is sijn kost weerdig hebbende reeds sestien jaren bereykt en het vierde is oud 10 jaar, wonende bij hem suppliant, genegen en voornemens zijnde zich als vrijmeester in 't ambacht der schoenmakers te laten inschrijven, waertoe hem obsteert het poorterschap enz.
De magistraat staat dit 19 juni 1736 toe.(bron RdR)
