Notes about Jacob Bouwens Kooger

He came to live as an 8 year old orphan together with his little brother in the General (Algemeen) Burger Orphanage in Den Burgh, Texel. Because he came from De Koog, he named himself later Kooger. He owned land and a farm. He held several high offices: magistrate, guardian of the poor and mayor.

After his death, according to his wishes in a contract, his children designated a poorhouse in the Weverstreet for the use of poor family members. From this the Jacob Bouwesz Kooger Institution (Foundation) was called in existence. This was in existence until 24 aug 1962. Only the upper part of the front gable of the house exists today. It houses a branch or an office of "De Trekpleister."
