Notes about Jacobus Jans James Dijkstra

James was born Jacobus Jans Dijkstra on August the fifth, 1848 in the country village of Mars(s)um, located in the northwestern central part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, son of Jan Pieters Dijkstra (31 years old, laborer) and Akke Jacobus Rinkesma. Source: scan of his birth certificate. He was named after his maternal grandfather, Jacobus Johannes Rinkesma.

On October 15, 1874 laborer Jacobus Dijkstra married in the country village of Menaldum (in the Frisian language called Menaam) at the age of 26 years the one year older seamstress (naaister) Klaaske Tjeerds Bosma, born in 1847 in Menaldum.
Jacobus legitimized at the same time Klaaske's son Tjeerd, who was born exactly one year before, on October 15, 1873, in Menaldum, where also were born son Jan on October 15 (again!), 1882, and daughter Jantje (Jennie in the USA) on July 30, 1886. Jacobus was in those years a laborer too.

On August 1, 1886 their son Jan Dijkstra died in Menaldum , at the age of 3 years.
