Biografie
Woonde in Dalfsen, Kerkplein 29. Zoon van Lolke Baarsma en Jacoba Zijlstra. Huwde op 30 december 193 in Murmerwoude, gemeente Dantumadeel met de 21-jarige met Anna Froukje Brouwer, geboren te De Cocksdorp (Texel) Het echtpaar had één zoon Lolke Geert. Zijn weduwe hertrouwde met Binne Hoekstra. Onderwijzer Christelijke Nationale School. Nederlands Hervormd. Lid verzet onder de schuilnaam Sip en behorend tot de KP-Zwolle. Verder was hij plaatsvervangend commandant van de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten in Dalfsen. Baarsma was een gedreven persoon met een felle uitgesproken anti-Duitse gezindheid. Reeds begin 1942 zorgde hij voor de huisvesting van onderduikers bij boeren in Dalfsen en omstreken. Toen er steeds meer kwamen, werden zij gehuisvest in geleende tenten, die in de bossen werden geplaatst. De meeste onderduikers werden naderhand lid van de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten. Uiteindelijk moest Baarsma zelf onderduiken. Sipke werd op 21 maart 1945 gearresteerd tijdens een bijeenkomst bij de KP'er Willem Jakma (13 november 1910 Zwolle – gefusilleerd 29 maart 1945 Wierden), waarbij een plan werd besproken om de Zwolse KP-leider Willem Lindenborn (5 april 1910 Den Helder - 22 maart 1945 Zwolle) uit het Zwolse ziekenhuis te bevrijden. Een Duitse infiltrant had de bijeenkomst aan de SD verraden. Na zijn arrestatie werd Baarsma overgebracht naar de SD in Zwolle en daar zwaar mishandeld door leden van de Nederlandse SD. Inlichtingen over zijn verzetswerk kwamen niet over zijn lippen. Het wekte zelfs bewondering op bij zijn beul. Met negen lotgenoten is hij gefusilleerd. Bij raadsbesluit d.d. 8 november 1949 van Dalfsen is een straat naar hem vernoemd. Op 11 april 1946 kon in Dalfsen door giften van de afdeling BS-Dalfsen en de burgerij een gedenkteken voor Sipke worden onthuld. De zuil stelt een maïskolf voor die de zaden naar alle kanten uitstrooit. Daarop staat de tekst: ,,Tot Jezus' wederkomst rust hier Sipke Jacob Baarsma, geb. 11-8-1920, gevallen 10-4-45. Matth. 5:10". De Amerikaanse generaal en latere president van de Verenigde Staten, Dwight D. Eisenhower en de regering van het Britse Verenigd Konkrijk zonden certificaten van dankbaarheid naar zijn weduwe. De dichteres Hennie Selles eerde zijn nagedachtenis met haar gedicht: ,,Een van de velen", dat destijds in diverse dag-en weekbladen werd gepubliceerd.
Op 24 april 1945 is Baarsma met militaire eer ter aarde besteld in een door de gemeente Dalfsen beschikbaar gesteld eregraf op de Algemene Begraafplaats in zijn woonplaats.
