Obituary from the Berkshire Eagle September 11, 2007: Alexander Hardie Forman Jr., 87, of Harrisonburg, VA, a former resident of Pittsfield, died Aug. 27 at Oak Lea Nursing Home there. Born in Pittsburgh on July 8, 1920, son of Alexander H. Forman Sr. and Clara CORBIN Forman, he was a graduate of Morgantown High School in West Virginia, where he was active as an Eagle Scout and musician. In 1943, he received a degree in electrical engineering from West Virginia University, where he participated in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, the Men's Glee Club and the band. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the Signal Corps in the South Pacific and in the Philippines. Mr. Forman was employed by General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer for 39 years, retiring from the naval ordnance department in 1985. He also worked at GE's plants in Schenectady and Syracuse, NY, and in Key West, FL, and was a licensed professional engineer in New York state. After retiring to Harrisonburg, he became a member of First Presbyterian Church and of the Shenandoah Choral Society and was active as a ham radio operator. He was also a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He and his wife, the former Elva Dyer, would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary Sept. 8. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard H. Forman of Denver and Dr. Paul A. Forman of Albion, ME; a daughter, Jane DeChants of Ann Arbor, MI; and five grandchildren. A memorial service for Alexander Hardie Forman Jr., who died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, was held Friday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Strite Auditorium in the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Memorial contributions may be made to the VMRC Compassion Fund, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801, or to the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society, in care of Kyger Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
