Rev. Harvey M. Lawson, Ph.B., B.D., "History and Genealogy of the Descendants of Clement Corbin of Muddy River (Brookline) Mass. and Woodstock, Conn.", 1905, p. 301 #496 "WILLIAM L. CORBIN (John, Leroy, Ira W., Oliver, Clement, Clement, James, Clement), b. Jan. 8, 1872, at Athens Pa.; m Ethel Christina Olin, dau. of Harvey Church Olin, Dec. 15, 1904, at East Orange, N. J. He prepared for college at the Homer Academy, Homer, N. Y., entered Amherst in 1892, and graduated, cum laude, in 1896, being poet of his class. He was a graduate student of English at Yale, 1896-1897; principal of the Union School of Canaseraga, N. Y., 1897-1899; librarian of the Norfolk (Conn.) Public Library, 1899-1902; received the degree of A.M. from Yale in 1900; was head of the English department of the Cascadilla School at Ithaca, N. Y., 1902-1904; is now (1905) instructor in English in Wells College, Aurora, N.Y.

Prof. CORBIN has written several poems of merit. The following appeared just after the death of McKinley:"

OUR FALLEN RULER
The brief uncertain watching time is o'er,
The last great change has come,
The nation's voice is dumb,
Struck by the grief that broods from shore to shore.

One people with one grief! Bowed to the will
Of him who knows the years,
They wait till good appears
Rising benignant from the seeming ill.

A martyr to the cause of liberty.
A kindly, God-led man,
Loyal American,
Felled by the lawless hand of anarchy!

Far-seeing, calm, and resolute he stood--
A lover to the end--
Making his foe his friend,
Pointing his country to a broader good.

With Lincoln and with Garfield let him rest,
and with them let him be
Shrined in the memory
Forever of the nation he loved best.

Norfolk, Connecticut
W. L. CORBIN
