Sept. 23, 1844, at Clayton, N.Y.; m. Mary Ethelda Blodget, dau. of Chester and Emily Blodget, of Carrollton, Mich., July 4, 1877. He was a soldier during the Civil War in Co. H, 2nd N.Y. Regt. Flying Artillery, stationed most of the time near Washington. All the active service he saw was in the second battle of Manassas, when his regiment lost a considerable number, and he says, "My legs were good ones for me that time, for I never ran so in my life." After the war he was a sailor on the lakes for nine years. In 1873 he located at Carrollton, Saginaw Co., Michigan, where he followed the cooper's trade for twenty-three years. In 1897 they moved to Smith's Crossing, Midland Co., Michigan, where he is engaged in farming with his son George."
