Whether Picart really painted is not assured. However, there are some anonymous painted copies to his prints (see RKD, collection of visual documentation). The most important publication, published under his direction and partly illustrated by himself, was the nine-volume 'Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde. Représentées par des dessinées de la main de Bernard Picard, Amsterdam (J.F. Bernard) 1723-1743.' Although the publisher is not mentioned as such he was also the author of the work. For the auction held after the death of his widow, see Amsterdam (Van der Zand) of November 25, 1737 Lugt 478, complete copy, not mentioned by Lugt"
