hij was boomkweker te Oudenbosch. Hij kwam al jong in de kwekerij van zijn vader en bij diens overlijden zette hij de kwekerij voort onder de naam J.G. van der Bom. etc.etc. (zie bron: GN.1962/221) In 1897 werd hij benoemd als lid van de gemeenteraad. Gelijktijdig legde hij zijn functie als assistent-brandmeester neer.
