      Overgrootvader's houten been.
      Overgrootvader's houten been, waarschijnlijk als gevolg van suikerziekte, deed hem regelmatig pijn, zodat zijn kleinzoon, mijn vader Cor aan dat been moest schuren en vijlen in hun werkplaats. Daarna moest het been teruggebracht worden. Mijn vader bracht het been in een juten zak en kreeg dan op zijn falie dat hij niet met die poot over straat durfde.

      Opmerking van Peter de Jong: Bovenstaande opmerkingen zijn van de hand van Pieter C. Tuinenburg, een kleinzoon van Gerrit Tuinenburg.
      Een kleindochter van Gerrit was Johanna Wilhelmina de Wilt, mijn moeder, zij wist ook te vertellen dat Gerrit Tuinenburg aan suikerziekte leed.
