HUDIG (Ferrand Whaley), geb. te Rotterdam 26 Dec. 1843, overl. aldaar 31 Dec. 1904, was de zoon van Jan Hudig en Cornelia Johanna Bakker. Hij werd 1 Oct. 1858 na vergelijkend examen als adelborst aan het koninklijk instituut voor de Marine te Willemsoord geplaatst en was, toen zijn jaar bij koninklijk besluit van 4 Sept. 1861 met ingang van 16 Sept. d.a.v. tot adelborst 1e klasse benoemd werd, de eerste dezer promotie. Hij werd 16 Dec. 1864 met ingang van 1 Jan. 1865 tot luitenant ter zee 2e, 24 Apr. 1875 met 10 Mei d.a.v. tot luitenant ter zee 1e klasse bevorderd. Daar hij behalve in de wiskundige vakken ook bijzonder bekwaam in werktuigkunde was en hij met het oog op zijn huwelijk gaarne eene betrekking aan den wal had, werd hij bij koninklijk besluit van 17 Jan. 1881 met ingang van 1 Febr. d.a.v. benoemd tot inspecteur van den Rijksstoomvaartdienst.
In 1884 werd hij benoemd tot directeur van de koninklijke fabriek van stoomwerktuigen voorheen Paul van Vlissingen en Dudok van Heel te Amsterdam. Hij bekwam daarvoor bij besluit van 8 Juli van dat jaar met 16 d.a.v. een jaar verlof, terwijl hem op zijn verzoek 16 Juli 1885 met denzelfden dag eervol ontslag uit den zeedienst werd verleend. Den achteruitgang van genoemde fabriek, die reeds onder van Vlissingen begonnen was, heeft hij niet kunnen beletten; vooral was het de groote obligatieschuld, die maakte, dat een liquidatie onvermijdelijk was, die in 1891 plaats had. Met ingang van 1 Juli 1892 werd Hudig administrateur van de Bell-telefoon-maatschappij te Rotterdam. Met 1 Mrt. 1896 kwam hij in dienst der gemeente Rotterdam in verband met den overgang der exploitatie van de telefoon aan de gemeente, welke door hem werd voorbereid. Met ingang van 1 Oct. 1896 werd hij directeur van den gemeentelijken telefoondienst. Met ingang van 1 Juli 1904 werd hem op zijn verzoek eervol ontslag verleend.
Hudig was een man van bijzondere gaven. Niet alleen in het waarnemen van moeilijke betrekkingen bleek dit, maar ook in de wijze waarop hij de Nederlandsche vereeniging van werktuig- en scheepsbouwkundigen, waarvan hij 13 Febr. 1892 voorzitter werd, leidde. Het was vooral zijn invloed, die bewerkte, dat deze vereeniging in 1899 eene afdeeling werd van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs. Van die afdeeling was hij tot 1902 voorzitter.
Hij huwde in 1878 Maria Petronella Löhnis, geb. 4 Juni 1849, overl. 11 Apr. 1918. Hun huwelijk was kinderloos.
