In 1795 werd deze agentuur- en cargadoorsfirma, vanaf 1829 ook scheepsrederij, door Jan Hudig (1769 - 1858) met Cornelis Gerbrand Blokhuijzen opgericht. Van 29 december 1796 tot en met 1819 was Christiaan van der Eb als firmant opgenomen. Ook de zoons van Jan Hudig werkten in het bedrijf; Dirk (1803 - 1853), Jan (1806 - 1857) en Jacob Louis (1813 - 1839). In de volgende generatie, onder Jan Hudig (1838 - 1924) kwam het in 1903 tot een fusie met L.W. Veder, waarna de firma Hudig & Veder ging heten. Het archief van de firma Hudig & Veder is geïnventariseerd door R.H. Krans * .
In 1818 werd Jan Hudig (1769 - 1858) agent voor de Londense verzekeraars Lloyd's onder de naam John Hudig. De firma John Hudig & Son is steeds nauw met Hudig & Blokhuijzen en later met Hudig & Veder verbonden geweest.
