"Dingenis Flipse & Wilhelmina van Gilst married on January 31, 1851. In 1854, they immigrated to Wisconsin with his parents (Dingenis & Johanna [Van Dien] Flipse) and five of his siblings. Records show he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 52nd Wisconsin Infantry, from March 29 to July 28, 1865.
By the 1870 census, his family had a farm in Blendon, Michigan, but by 1900 he and Wilhelmina had divorced. Dingenis was farming in Kansas with sons Dingenis/Daniel, Abram & John. In Blendon, Wilhelmina was still farming with three of their unmarried children -- Annie, William & Martin -- but they had begun using the spelling "Flipsey". Dingenis and son John returned to Blendon from Kansas, and upon his death in 1909, Dingenis was buried with the name Flipsey. John rejoined his siblings on the farm until their own deaths. He, too, was buried as a Flipsey."
