Wanneer zijn zwager, markgraaf Gero van Oostmark, in 953 de opstand van Liudolf van Saksen en Koenraad 'de Rode' steunt is Meinwerk II kortstondig markgraaf van de Oostmark. In hetzelfde jaar sneuvelt Meinwerk II in de genoemde opstand.
Meinwerk II is in de bronnen bekend als naaste verwant van Hendrik I van Saksen, hetgeen verklaart kan worden door het huwelijk van Meinwerk II's vader.
