Omtrent het voorgevallene met de landloopers op het kasteel 'Schaffelaar' te Barneveld meldt men nader: Een der personen gaf op genaamd te zijn Herman ter Braake, oud 29 jaar. Het bleek echter later, dat die naam valsch was en hij eigenlijk heet Willem Dam, oud 25 jaar, geboren te Ambt-Hardenberg; tevens ontdekte men toen dat hij deserteur was sedert 24 november 1886, van het korps torpedisten.
