    "28 sept 1917 - Waarde broer, ik heb met een paar kameraden een kiekjelaten maken. Nu, je zal me zeker wel eruit zoeken. Ik ben met een dag of14 gestraft. De Gr. van J.H.Tr. Doelen Kazerne H.S. Brielle."

JT*1935: mijn vader heeft 25 jaar in de haven gewerkt als "dekgast" voorThomsen. Hij gaf dan vanaf het scheepsdek aanwijzingen aan dekraandrijvers bij het laden en lossen van de schepen. Begin jaren '30had hij een ongeluk op het werk waarbij hij beide benen brak. Dat isnooit meer helemaal goed gekomen. Ongeveer vanaf begin 1946 werkte hij"blikvast" voor de Holland Amerika Lijn: hij was vast uitgeleend aan deHAL door de Haven Arbeids Reserve.
