Notes about Ermengarde van Anjou

Conan I van Bretagne (944 - Conquereuil, 27 juni 992) was een zoon van Judicael Berengar. In 958 volgde hij zijn vader op als graaf van Rennes en werd in 970 graaf Vannes, dankzij de hulp van bisschopOscand van Vannes. In 981 versloeg hij Hoël I, graaf van Nantes en hertog van Bretagne, in de eerste slag bij Conquereuil. Daarna was Conan de feitelijke machthebber in Bretagne. Hij verwierf in 990het graafschap Nantes en noemde zichzelf in dat jaar "Princeps Britannorum", in een schenking aan de abdij van Mont Saint-Michel. Hij werd verslagen door zijn zwager Fulco III van Anjou in de tweede slag van Conquereuil. Zijn rechterhand werd afgeslagen waarna hij zich overgaf, maar hij stierf nog dezelfde dag. Conan is begraven in de abdij van Mont Saint-Michel.


Conan was gehuwd met Ermengarde (952 - 992), dochter van Godfried I van Anjou en Adelheid van Meaux, en werd de vader van:

Judith (982-1017), gehuwd met Richard II van Normandië


Judicaël (-1037), bisschop van Vannes en graaf van Porthoët,


Catualon, abt in Redon.


Hurnod (ovl. na 1026)



Daarnaast had Conan tenminste vier zoons bij een of meer minnaressen.
