Bio: Leonard Gunkel first married Anna Catherine Houtz about 1769 and she died about 1772; they had one daughter, Catharine Gunckel, in 1770. His second wife was Rosina Stump married on 16 Jan 1775 at Trinity Tulpehocken Reformed Congregation, Jackson Twp., Lebanon Co., PA (Mennonite). They had one son, John Gunkle 04 Sep 1775. Leonard died 10 Oct 1778 in the Battle of Germantown, Pennsylvania, during the Revolutionary War. Letters of Administration were issued on 11 Oct 1778 to Leonard's father and his widow when Leonard Gunkel died. Administration papers dated 11 Dec 1782, shows Leonard Kunkle, of Cocalico Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. Samuel Royer was appointed Guardian of Catharine Kunkle, daughter of deceased, under 14 years of age. David Royer was appointed Guardian of John Kunkle, son of deceased, under 14 years of age.
