Biography
Name: Eleanor /Madison/[1]
Birth:
Date: 1700
Place: , King and Queen, Virginia, USA[2]
Marriage:
Date: 31 Jul 1732
Place: Spotsylvania, Spotsylvania, Virginia
Eleanor, daughter ofJohn Madison, was born about 1704 in Virginia, assuming she was 21 in 1725. She died after 1751 and before 22 Feb 1758 in Orange Co, VA.
She married James COLEMAN before 31 Jul 1732 at Spotsylvania County, VA; children (surname COLEMAN):
1Elizabeth (b. c1734; d. bef 29 Aug 1814; m. Thomas SCOTT)
2Ambrose (b. c1735; d. 1813; m. Elizabeth LUCAS)
3James (b. c1737; d. bef 23 Jul 1814)
4Mary (b. c1739; d. aft 1802; m. George HOLLAND)
On 3 July 1725, she was godmother at the baptism of Elizabeth Madison, daughter of Ambrose Madison and Frances Taylor, according to the Ambrose Madison bible. She was called Elender wife of James Coleman by the will of Ambrose MADISON dated 31 Jul 1732. On 1 May 1751, Eleanor MADISON and James COLEMAN recorded a deed for 18 acres "corner to Mr. Richard Todd & John Minor" to Elizabeth Willis at Orange County, VA.
Research Notes
The 1732 will of Ambrose Madison made bequests to Elender wife of James Coleman and to David Roach whose relationship is not specified. The children of Eleanor and James Coleman were born in the 1730s. In addition, James supposedly died in 1764 and David Roach in 1761, making it impossible for Eleanor to be the wife of both men. Evidence needed for the marriage to David Roach.
