Bio: Guy Smith was probably born in Virginia in 1675 and was educated in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, , England. He was the son of Col. Lawrence Smith (1629-1700) and Mary Hitchon Smith (1631-1687). There are no birth records found for Rev. Guy Smith, but much information about him living and dying in Virginia. In the Encyclopedia of Virginia, Vol. 1 page 326, it is recorded that Rev. Guy Smith came to Virginia before 1700 and was minister of Abingdon Church in Gloucester County, Virginia. He was a member of the clergy who assembled at William & Mary College in 1719.

Guy married Elizabeth Perrin (1685-1720) in 1699 at Abingdon, Gloucester, Virginia, United States. Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard Perrin (1665 - abt 1695) and Anne Porter (1667-1711). There is a passenger list for Guy Smith coming to Virginia from England 3 years after his marriage. It could be possible that he had to go to England to be educated and licensed as a minister for the Church of England in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. His parents were born in England but came to Virginia, and all of Guy's brothers and sisters were born in Virginia, and both of his parents died in Gloucester, Virginia. All of his children were born in Gloucester, Virginia.

( this was the "second " church ) He married Elizabeth Marie Perrin ( 1682- 1722 ), the daughter of Thomas Perrin ( 1658- 1752 ) and Elizabeth Chalfont ( 1664- 1702 ). He died at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia while attending to church affairs. He was buried at Abingdon Episcopal Church in Gloucester County, Virginia.The grave is lost to time , but probably lies outside the present third church cemetery walls. The third church at Abingdon was built about 1760.
