Michael King I - The Immigrant (from the book "Alvin King: His Ancestors And Descendants" by Allene Hill and Juanita Lowrance

About 1646, only thirty-nine years after the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia, Young Michael King of Norwich, England, born about 1630, left his native land for the voyage to the New World: the colonies across the Atlantic. He arrived in Nansemond County, Virginia, in the company of John Wright who had land in the area. Nansemond County is across the James River and southeast of Jamestown.
This was the area where John Smith and others of the first colony ventured out to explore for food. Nansemond River provided transportation as well as plentiful seafood. The surrounding land was rich, well-watered and well supplied with an abundance of animals and fowl. Winters were mild - spring and fall weather a delight to the Englishmen. There were about 400 people there when Michael King arrived there.
From"Bible records of Suffolk and Nansemond Counties, Virginia" by Norfleet "MICHAEL KING was from Old England and came out of the City of Norwich, Norfolk County to Virginia and served his time with John Wright in Nansemond County"
Michael King received three land grants totaling 1800 acres in Nansemond County. Records are available at the Virginia Library in Richmond.
