Notes about John Baynton

Sir John Baynton (1407-1447)

The Bayntun family (or de Beinton as they were known in Anglo Saxon times) may have crossed the channel from Normandy to Wiltshire, England early in the 12th century.

There is a theory that the family are descendants from the Ancient Kings of Denmark, however, so far no proff of this is freely available.

Several judicious marriages took place in medieval times to women whose families had very impressive prdigrees dating back to Alfeed the Great, King of England and Charlesmagne, Emperor of the West, wome of which are listed below.

<p>There is no direct connection between Alfred "The Great" and Charlesmagne, but Elfida, the daughter of Alfred married Baldwin II, Count of Flanders and a descendant of this marriage was Matilda of Flanders who married William "The Conqueror", Duke of Normandy and King of England, who was also a descendant of Charlesmagne.
