"My maternal great grandfather, William Wenban, emigrated from his family home in Hawkhurst, Kent, England, in 1839. He was 17. He arrived in NSW aboard the bounty ship “Cornwall” on 01/09/1839 with his parents, William(1802-1878) and Mary(nee Odiam, 1802-1880) Wenban and siblings,Walter, Tryphosa, Tryphena and Theo (Theophilius). Two siblings died en route, Samuel aged 10 died from “anacuria” and Sophia aged 5 died from “dropsy”. Two siblings were born in Australia, Samuel 1843, and Sarah 1846.
In 1851, William married Edinburgh born, Catherine Munro, aged 17. Catherine had emigrated from Scotland aboard the “Margaret” with her parents George (1807-1885) and Mary (nee Thomson, 1808-1859) and surviving siblings George Munro (1838-1893) and Elizabeth aged 1. They arrived in NSW on 24/01/1842. Catherine’s sister, Mary Jane Munro was born in Australia in 1843.
William opened a paint shop in Upper Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney, NSW. His second surviving son named William Henry at birth, but known by his second given name HENRY WENBAN, was my maternal grandfather."
