The reasons that attracted

Jane Ezzy to a life in Sydney Town rather than the Green Hills of the Hawkesbury, remain a mystery. Certainly, so far as we know very few of her descendants took after her in this respect, during the early years, at least. Her daughter, Sophia, together with her husband, James Dargin, lived in the Town for a short time early in their marriage, when they were conducting the "Bulls Head Inn" in George Street, Sydney. .... Both couples remained for only a few years and then returned to the country areas. Sophia and James returning to Bathurst, where they had previously spent some time, in earlier years........

In 1829 when their first child Eliza was born, James had become a Publican, like so many of his family and the couple owned the "Irish Arms" in Sydney Road, Parramatta. By 1831 the couple had moved to Sydney Town and for the next four years James was the Publican of the "Bulls Head Inn" in George Street. When their daughter Sophia Jane was born in 1837, James was listed as a Farmer of Richmond Road, Windsor, but by 1836 the couple were again living at Bathurst and James was the owner of the "Highland Laddie", a licence he held for about three years. The family returned to live at Windsor where their three youngest children were born and James passed away in Feb 1850, leaving Sophia with a young family to raise.
