Op 25 april 1876 wordt Gerrit door de krijgsraad tveroordeeld tot een disciplinaire correctie, omdat hij samen met een andere soldaat (Henricus Johannes Lodewijk Hakkenbroek) in dronken toestand uit baldadigheid een veertienjarige jongen (Pieter Peperkorn) beroven van een karbonade en een ei.

In een extract uit het stamboek van de Onder-Officieren en Manschappen dat als bijlage bij het vonnis zit, wordt Gerrit als volgt omschreven:
