Aron Smeer was een zoon van Levie Salomon Smeer en Sientje Leman Swaab. Hij was eerder gehuwd in 1876 in Amsterdam met Hanna Walvis, die echter in 1877 overleed.

Aron Smeer en Sara Appel, een dochter van Samuel David Appel en Hendrica Manus Groen, huwden op 29 Mei 1878 in Amsterdam. Ze kregen zeven kinderen: Sientje, Salomon, Levie, Heintje, Aaltje en de tweeling Roosje en Simon (overleden in 1892 en 1893).
