This is possibly a story not verified

Captured at the battle of Preston, in Lancashire, England Nov 1, 1715. He enlisted in the Scottish Highlanders Army, was a devoted Presbyterian, a Jacobite, a supporter of King James II, James Edward III, and the Protestant movement against the Catholic church on Scotland & England. When he was captured he was put on the Elizabeth & Ann ship that was headed for the colonies & Jamaica. The ship docked in VA on June 29, 1716 when he got off.

John received a Royal Land Grant from the King of England in Hamilton Township, Cumberland Co., PA.
