Notes about Angus McLucas

Angus was born Angus McLucas on the Isle of Coll about 1768 to Malcolm McLucas and his wife Effie McInnes. He is listed in the 1776 Cencus of Coll as Angus McLucas, above age of 7, so born before 1769.

Angus first married Janet McInnes. There are no recorded marriages for Coll during 1780-1792 when the Isle appears to have lacked a resident assistant minister. They had Murdoch in 1790 and John in 1794.

Angus then married Flora McKinnon. This occurred during a gap in the parish registers, so that their first recorded child is Malcolm McLucas baptised 20 Dec 1798. Three following children were baptised under the surname of McDougall.

When daughter Elizabeth married in 1829, she gave her father’s occupation as workman.

Angus appears to have used the surname McDougall from about 1801 onwards, except that a further marriage, to Mary McDonald on Coll on 23 Jan 1810 also appears to be him.

He appears as Angus McDougall, age 73, in the 1841 Cencus for Coll.
