Norman Linton Quigg Norman Linton Quigg, age 92, celebrating 23 birthdays, and beloved husband of Elna Viola Quigg, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2004 at Mt. Diablo Medical Center in Concord, CA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Gerald Lee Quigg, Laurel, MD; Loren Thomas Quigg, San Antonio, TX; daughters, Darlene Anna Webring, Pittsburg, CA; Elna Louise Gay, Junction, CO; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Quigg was born on the Linton farm in Athens, AL in 1912. His mother moved the family by driving a team of mules hitched to a covered wagon from Arkansas to Albion, MI, when Norman was just 2 years old. As a teenager, Norman worked as a cleanup boy for Mr. George Bernard at his printing shop on West Porter St., Albion. His job was to pick up the pieces of type and the spaces that had fallen to the floor and put them into the correct bin for reuse and to answer the phone when Mr. Bernard would go into his prayer room. Mr. Bernard would say, "My wife knows better than to call. If there is a fire, I am sure you can put it out!" He was a graduate of Washington Gardner High School, class of 1931, Albion, MI. He was a self-taught guitarist, pianist and vocalist with Boehm's Dance Band, Albion, MI and also entertained in various hotels, nightclubs, and gatherings as a guitarist, pianist, organist and vocalist, and at radio stations in Chicago, Michigan, and San Bernardino, CA.

Mr. Quigg enlisted in the Quarter Master Detachment of the Army at Fort Winfield Scott, CA in Dec. 1933, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant before accepting a Warrant Officer in 1942, retiring from the Army as a CW04. He served at the Presidio San Francisco; Fort Douglas Utah, Assistant Adjutant General; Presidio San Francisco 6th Army HQ, Assistant Adjutant General; Philippines, Executive Officer to the Adjutant General of the Philippine RIUKAS Command; Camp Stoneman, CA, Strength Accounting and Liaison Officer between Fort Mason; Munich, GE, Assistant Adjutant of the 172nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team; Camp Stoneman, CA, Assistant Adjutant; Presidio, San Francisco, CA, Officers Branch, retiring 31 March 1955. He served as Administrative Assistant Military Science Dept., Army ROTC, University CA, Berkeley, from 1955 until retirement in 1975.

He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, National Association for Uniformed Services, and Concord Church of the Nazarene. He was a piano tuner in the local area for more than thirty years. One of his favorite Scriptures to quote was Isaiah 55:2.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 21, 2004 at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette.
