Notes about Norma Faye van Hofwegen


Norma F. Dykstra, age 72, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.

Norma Van Hofwegen, daughter of Laurence and Nellie Van Hofwegen, was born September 15, 1940, in Worthington, Minnesota. She was the youngest of 4 children, joining brother, Adrian and sisters, Geneva and Arlene. Norma graduated from Worthington High School.

On June 29, 1961, Norma was united in marriage with Richard Dykstra in Worthington. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Pipestone, Minnesota, where they were blessed with three children, Mike, Mark, and Brenda. Richard's job soon took them to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they lived the remainder of their lives.

In addition to raising three children and maintaining a home, Norma spent over 20 years working as a secretary/receptionist in the HVAC industry, for Krier and Blain, Inc., where she met many life-long friends.

Norma was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. She was active her entire adult life in various aspects of music ministry as an organist, pianist, choir member, and bell choir member. She was also active in service ministries - she prepared meals for others, and volunteered at Destiny Family Medical Clinic.

In her spare time, Norma enjoyed pursuing her hobbies of counted cross stitch and hardanger. She spent many hours creating wonderful gifts for numerous family members and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Mike (Karla) Dykstra, Mark (Michelle) Dykstra, and Brenda Dykstra, all of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Allison (Jon) Cochrun, Jeremy (Heidi), Benjamin, and Andrew; great grandchildren , Taysia, Maison, and Asher; sister, Arlene Hofstee of Corsica, SD; many dear relatives and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Laurence and Nellie Van Hofwegen; sister, Geneva Luinenberg; brother, Adrian Van Hofwegen.

The family will direct memorials to Destiny Family Medical Clinic and the Sioux Falls Christian School Fine Arts program.
