Jay Burton Huiting was born January 20, 1933 in Cawker City, Kansas to Jay and Lily Huiting. He attended one-room country schools through the 8th grade and graduated from Downs, Kansas High School in 1950.

Burton enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served until June 1955. He married Jessie Gesink on August 26, 1955. He attended Adams State College in Alamosa where he earned his teaching degree. He furthered his education, at several colleges and universities, with National Science Foundation Scholarships.

Burton began teaching at Denver Christian School in 1958, where he taught Biology, Earth Science, and Drivers Education. He began a wrestling program and served as coach for ten years. He impacted many young lives during his career and retired in 1988.

After retirement, Burton enjoyed the challenge of reviving and reconditioning lawn mowers, which happily went back to work for their owners. He set high standards for himself and his family, which included Burton, Jessie, and four children: Gerrit, Jay, Lindabeth, and Brian. Burton's parents and daughter, Lindabeth (1958-1995), preceded him in death.

Burton served as elder numerous times. His faith and Christian life were of utmost importance to him. His wife and constant companion, Jessie, was the love and light of his life. She supported him to the end.

Following a lengthy illness, our husband, father, brother and friend is in the loving arms of the Everlasting God.
