One killed in big-rig collision at 605 Freeway transition

IRWINDALE - A Buena Park man driving a big-rig tractor was killed Monday morning after he hit a parked big-rig truck on the northbound transition road from the 605 Freeway to the 210 Freeway.
Theodore Sipma, 66, was northbound on the 605, heading to the eastbound 210, when he struck the rear of a semitrailer that was parked on the shoulder of the transition road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact of the 8:55 a.m. crash caused the tractor Sipma was driving to overturn onto its roof and block the transition road. The tractor was not hauling a trailer.
Sipma was removed from the tractor and pronounced dead at the scene at 9:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
The driver of the 2012 Peterbilt semitrailer that was parked on the shoulder of the transition road had stopped to look at his map, according to CHP officials.
That driver, Dennis Brummett, 62, of Las Vegas, was not injured, according to the CHP report.
Sipma was traveling about 55 to 65 mph at the time of the crash. The reason his 2005 Freightliner tractor drifted into the shoulder and struck the left rear of the trailer is still under investigation, according CHP Officer Monica Posada.
There were no arrests, according to the CHP.
