Capt. RICHARD3 DOUGLAS ( William2, William1), born in New London, Conn., July 19, 1682. He married, Dec. 7, 1704, Margaret Abell, of New London. In "1713, Capt. Richard Douglas bought of Samuel Spooner of Norwich, a house-lot on Bank street, which his father, Stephen Spooner, bought of John Packer, for ???80." "June 14, 1716, Richard Douglas raised his house, which was on the east side of the town street, next to David Gardiner's."*
Richard was a sea-captain and accumulated a very comfortable competence by his industry. He was occasionally chosen surveyor of highways by the town. Hempstead says he "fell dead as he was steering a scow up to Mr. Richards's wharf," Feb. 26, 1734-5. The inventory of his estate was ???2,868, but it was not divided till 1751. Margaret, his wife, died April 18, 1752. Children, born in New London:
