Notes about Gerrijt van Belcum

Gerrijt was de fundator van het Sint Christophorileen tot Oldehove. Testament opgemaakt op 12 februari 1480 waarin hij ondermeer "een prysters proue" instelt. Een leen dat qua omvang uit een groot vermogen afkomstig moet zijn. Gerrit was waarschijnlijk een telg uit het hoofdelingengeslacht Hemmema, maar ook de steenrijke families Adelen en Eysinga hadden destijds uitgestrekte bezittingen rond Berlikum en flinke stadshuizen met grote tuinen rondom in Leeuwarden.
Helaas is voor zover bekend slechts het deel van het testament dat de fundatie van het leen behelst, bewaard gebleven in de vorm van een afschrift van dat deel, ten behoeve van de beheerders van het leen.
