Notes about William Bell

(From L.S Descendants of John Bell) William Bell Left Scotland 1772 for America , with 5 children and William`s sister Isabel Bell, in the summer (month of May). Arrived in America in June,and went up the Hudson river to the Scottish settlement at Fort Howard, Albany county. William set up as an innkeeper. During the American Revolution the family left their farm in Charlotte County, and William Sr., and sons William Jr. and Duncan, joined Roger`s Rangers (King`s Rangers, under Major James Rogers). After 1784 they received grants of land in Fredericksburgh - William Jr. - East 1/2, and Duncan - West1/2,lot 9, con. 1. Father William returned to Fort Edward to get his wife and daughters, then came to live near his sons (lot unknown). (from handwritten account given to Thomas Bell by Elizabeth H. Salsbury in letter dated 2/14/1989) miles south of Madoc, Hastings County, Ontario in the area now called Belleville, which reportedly was named for the three Bell brothers. (info from hand written Bell history prepared by Carrie Mellissa Walker on1/6 /1974) put in jail during Revolutionary War - deported to Canada as a Loyalist (from Thomas G. Bell). William and Flora lived on Lot 9, Concession 1 of Fredericksburgh Twp. at Sandhurst. They later moved to Desmond in Camden Township. Bell, William. William Bell of Fredericksburgh interred 29 Sept. 1788. Rev. John Langhorn`s Register, Anglican Diocese of Ontario.
