Inherited 4550 acres which included 2500 acres at "Buckland s." Sheriff of Nansemond Co., VA, colonel of the militia a nd Burgess, 1723-26. When the VA-NC line was re-drawn, the property was located in Ch owan Co., NC; these acres are in present-day Gates Co., NC . "Bucklands" is located 2 miles off Highway 13 on highwa y 37. The house still standing but in needs of repair in 1 972. In 1722 he established the first ferry across the Cho wan River, not far from Winton. When Angela Bray ran off with the Ships Captain, Henry Bake r married Ruth Chauncey, Pasquotank Co., NC Inherited 4550 acres which includ ed 2500 acres at "Bucklands."
