BARONY OF BRAY

I. 1. EDMUND BRAY, son and heir of John Bray, of Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, and nephew and heir of Sir Reynold Bray, K.G. [Lord High Treasurer to Henry VII], was knighted 13 October 1513; Sheriff of Beds 1514-15, and of Surrey and Sussex 1522; was summoned to Parliament from 9 August 1529 (taking his seat 4Dec. 1529) to 1 March 1538/9 by writs directed Ed'o D'no Bray ch'r, whereby he became LORD BRAY. He married, before 21 March 1500/1, Jane, daughter and heir of Sir Richard HALIGHWELL or HALYWELL, of Holwell, by Jane, daughter of Sir John NORBURY. He died 18 October 1539, and was buried (with his father and uncle abovenamed) at Chelsea, Midx. His widow married Sir Uriat BRERETON. She died 24 Octoctober 1558, and was buried at Eaton Bray.
