Lucien Xavier CHATELAIN, matricule de déporté enceinte fortifiée 911 puis matricule de simple déporté 3426. C'est le dernier condamné à un enceinte fortifiée déporté en Nouvelle Calédonie. Il y arrive le 12 novembre 1889 à bord du Ville de Saint Nazaire qui transporte le 64ieme convoi de condamnés aux travaux forcés et sur lequel six ans plus tard Dreyfuss sera déporté en Guyane. CHATELAIN est étudiant et il effectue son service au 111ieme régiment de ligne. Il n"a que 26 ans quand il est condamné, le 5 juin 1888, pour "avoir entretenu des intelligences avec des puissances étrangères dans le but de leur procurer des moyens d'entreprendre la tuerre contre la France". L'adjudant CHATELAIN, à Antibes, pour les yeux d'une belle, a livré un fusil Lebel à un espion. Paul Mimande, pseudonyme du directeur de la Pénitentiaire Armand de la Loyere, le décrit dans "Criminopolis" alors qu'il est détenu en enceinte fortifiée à Ducos. Clin d'oeil de l'histoire, l'adjudant Chatelain habitait dans la case dite de Rochefort; à Saint-Martin-de-Ré, il avait occupée la cellule qui sera destiné en 1898 à Dreyfus. Chatelain épouse a Païta, le 16 novembre 1901, Sidonie Louise Freudenreich, dont la famille était arrivée en 1873 sur le Fénelon avec d'autres Alsaciens-Lorrains. Plusieurs enfants naissent de ce mariage. Lucien Xavier Chatelain décède à Nouméa le 16 avril 1943.
