WELL KNOWN SEVENTH WARD WOMAN IS DEAD
Mrs. J. L. Davis, 301 Cherry Avenue, Succumbs to a Stroke of Paralysis

Mrs. Cordelia Alice Davis, wife of Jesse L. Davis, and one of the best known women of the Seventh ward, died at her home, 301 Cherry avenue at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, following a paralytic stroke, suffered Friday morning after she had arisen. Her entire left side was affected. She lapsed into a comatose state Friday night. Hers is the second death in a family of thirteen. She had been in failing health during the last two years. Mrs. Davis was a native of Royer, this county, and was born August 2, 1855, being the daughter of Charles C. and Hannah M. Nepper, both deceased. In October, 1873, she wedded J. L. Davis, of Ormenia, at Huntingdon. They resided here for the last twenty-six years. Her husband survives with two sons, Alva E. and George B. Davis, both of this city; and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Anna M. Treese, Clappertown; Mrs. Ellen Wertz, this city; Alexander Nepper, Juniata; B. Frank Nepper, Los Angles [sic], Calif.; Mrs. Sarah B. Brumbaugh, Shy Beaver, Huntingdon county; Mrs. Ettie Lykens, Newry; Joseph M. Nepper, this city; Mrs. Fannie Mosel, Hollidaysburg; Ernest J. Nepper, Altoona; Mrs. Lavenia Isenberg, Williamsburg, and C. Edward Nepper, Jewett, O. A brother, W. Hartley Nepper was killed in a railroad accident in 1903, and two sons and two daughters are also deceased. Two granddaughters also survive. Mrs. Davis was an ardent and active member of Grace Methodist Episcopal church, being particularly interested in the Ladies' Aid society, prior to her illness. She was widely known and her friends were legion, as she was especially interested in matters, religious, civic and of community welfare. Public funeral services will be conducted at her late residence, 301 Cherry avenue, at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. D. D. Kauffman, D.D., of Grace Methodist church, and Rev. W. H. Barkley, of Fourth Lutheran church, will be in charge. Private burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery.
