    4. Obituary for Plimpton Kelly Newell
The people of this city and community were saddened last Saturday evening, when the news was reported that Plimpton K. NEWELL had passed away at 7 o'clock at his home south of town. He had been in poor health for several years, but was able to be up and around most of the time. For several weeks, he has been growing weaker and death was due to chronic myocarditis with fatty degeneration of the heart.

Plimpton Kelly NEWELL was born in Pulaski county, Kentucky, July 5,1866 and died at Stafford, Kansas, January 5, 1920; age 53 years, 5 months and 29 days.

In June 1884 he came to Stafford county, Kansas with his parents, being 18 years of age and he has made his home here ever since that time. He was married November 6, 1889 to Miss Mary MORFORD and to this union seven children were born, five boys and two girls, who are as follows: Clare, Rawleigh, Harry and Ralph NEWELL, who are at home, Mrs. Laura McFADDEN of Mullinsville, Kansas, Glen NEWELL of Towanda, Kansas and Mrs. Stella HARGETT of Stafford.

He was converted and joined the M. E. church at Eureka in the spring of 1890, when Dr. G. W. Akers was pastor. He has been a faithful member ever since and ways always interested in the welfare of the church and everything that was for the good of the church and the community. He was a loving husband and father, a good citizen and a splendid neighbor and was one who was ever thoughtful of the comforts of those around him.

Beside his devoted wife and children, he leaves his mother, Mrs. R. R. NEWELL, four brothers, and four sisters, Hardin NEWELL, P. A. NEWELL, Malvin NEWELL, Brent NEWELL, Mrs. Minnie MINKS, Mrs. Ollie IRVINE, Mrs. Martha DAVIS, all of Stafford, and Mrs. Mada RUNDELL of Pierceville, Kansas, three grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends who mourn his death.

Short funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, after which services were held at 1:30 o'clock at the Eureka church and were conducted by Dr. G. W. Akers, an old friend of the family, assisted by Rev. S. W. Keller, pastor of the Eureka church. The many beautiful flowers told, in a way, of the esteem in which the deceased was held. His brothers and brothers-in-law, P. A. NEWELL, Hardin NEWELL, Malvin NEWELL, Ira RUNDELL, Fred DAVIS, and Arthur MINKS, were pall-bearers. Interment was made in the Stafford cemetery.

The Courier joins the host of friends in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow.
