In 1557 he bought Lymes End in Leckhampstead to increase his holdings in the adjacent parish, and the capital to acquire this came from the sale of other, more scattered, lands. George had inherited from his mother at her death in 1557; the Manor Of Thornton; land at Stake Hammond; land probably 'Nast End' at Leckhampstead, the adjacent parish to Thornton, and it was to this he wished to extend his holdings. Married: (1) Helen (Or Elinor) Montagu, the daughter of Sir Edward Montagu, Chief Justice (D. 1557), and (2) Margery Cooke of Cheshire. Children ;(First wife) Sir Edward of Thornton, His eldest son and heir; William of Ockendon; and Thomas of Rushton. Children ; (Second Wife) Margery, the wife of Thomas Yorke, Jane, who married (1) Matthew Claver and (2) John Philips.
