CHARLES Clarke IRONS, b. Abt. 1853, Blackfriars, Surrey; Born 12 May 1852/3, though birth cert says 1857, at home (was supposed to have been born at the Old Barge House - the only one not born in Islington). He died 4 Aug 1926 (from email Adrienne) The family had hoped that he would be come a doctor, and he went to university for a while but his leanings were to art. His occupations were described as ``engraver on wood´´, `` artist and author´´.

1871 aged 18, living at Old Barge House, Southwark with his parents and siblings.

1881 aged 28, living at 24 Beaconsfield Terrace, Finchley with his wife Mary 24 and daughter Hilda M 5 months.

1891 aged 39, living at 59 Cressingham Road, Lewisham with his wife Mary 34 and children Hilda M 10, Madeline 9, Seffried C 8, Kathleen M 5, Wilfred G 5 and Lorna C 3.

1911 aged 58, living in a six roomed house at 58 Cressingham Road, Lewisham with his wife of two years, Linda 21, and children Thomas 1 and Cicely 1. Two children born of this marriage.

Charles Clarke Irons was an artist and had an interesting life, coming to NZ twice in the late 1800s and again in 1903, lived in a tent on Strowan Road which is now prime real estate!!. CCI married twice, our line through his second wife Martha Linda Webber (b Australia) whom he met on the return voyage from NZ She was only 21 he was 57 when they married, they had 10 children including two sets of twins!! In 1912 Charles Clarke Irons wrote to one of his daughters in New Zealand and said that ``Linda is a tall fine woman, gentle loving and hard working. She has a beautiful voice for singing and is fond of music´´. In 1926/7 Charles died leaving 10 children in her care. SOURCE Amanda Kerby
