18 April 1826 Settlement Examination - A single woman, she is pregnant with a bastard likely to be chargeable. About 2 years ago she went as a yearly servant to Mr DAVIS of Hexton for £3 a year, serving the term. She renewed this service until the following March when she received the wages due and left.
6 February 1827 - On 10 July 1826, whilst single and pregnant, she was removed from Hitchin to Hexton and taken to Mr DAVIS, Overseer of the Poor of Hexton. With no lodgings available she returned to Hitchin after having sworn to the child. DAVIS said a certificate of settlement would be granted through him but said there was plenty of time and she was to remain in Hitchin.
She was delivered of a bastard son on 22 September 1826, 18 February 1827 - Samuel WALLER, the deponent is the brother in law of Sarah WESTWOOD and servant to Dr HAWKINS of Hitchin. He states that DAVIS came to his house on 5 Sep 1826 and saw WESTWOOD and he heard him say "make yourself happy where you are and I will bring you a certificate next week." This was repeated several times the same evening.
18 February 1827 - Sarah WESTWOOD the deponent states that after her confinement, DAVIS twice gave 10/- a week to cover some of the expenses of her confinement. Removal Order from Hitchin to Hexton.

1851 aged 43, living at Hexton with her husband, William West, and children George, Hannah, Susan, William, Thomas and Eliza.
