Notes about Jessie Irene WRIGHT

1881 aged 8, living at No 2 Mill House, Ponders End, Enfield St James with parents, George Reynolds and Matilda Wright, and three siblings.

1891 aged 18, visiting her future husband, Charles George Baron, at Mayfield Cottage, Hampton Wick, Uxbridge, Middlesex and his widowed mother, Mary E Baron and brother Francis E Baron.

1901 aged 28, living at East Mill House, Ponders End St Mathews, Enfield with her husband, Charles George Baron, daughters Irene May and Evelyn Marie, and two servants.

"The marriage of Miss Jessie Irene Wright, the only daughter of George Reynolds Wright of Mill House, Ponders End, and Mr. Charles George Baron, son of the late Mr Charles John Baron, of Gosmore, Herts., took place on Tuesday afternoon, at two o’clock, in the church of St. James, at Enfield Highway, and, as might be expected from the position which the bride’s family have occupied in the neighbourhood for many years, the happy event excited a great deal of interest in the locality.

There were more than sixty wedding guests present at the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. A. J. Noakes, M.A., and the church was crowded with spectators. The bride, who wore a dress of white Bengaline silk, trimmed with white fur, and carried a handsome shower bouquet given by the bridegroom, entered the church on the arm of her father, who gave her away. She was attended by six bridesmaids, the Misses Annie, Gertie, Frances and Edith Lyne, her cousins (who wore dresses of heliotrope cashmere, trimmed with white cashmere, and white chip hats with white ribbons and feathers), and the Misses Florence and Mabel Logsdon, cousins of the bridegroom, who were dressed in white cashmere. The bridesmaids carried shower bouquets provided by the bridegroom. Mr F. E. Baron, brother of bridegroom, acted as best man, and the groomsmen were Mr W. G. Wright, Mr Walter James Wright, and Mr F. Tingle. The bride’s mother wore a dress of green Bengaline silk, trimmed with silver fox, with bonnet and bouquet to match; and the mother of the bridegroom was attired in heliotrope velvet, with bonnet and bouquet to match. The wedding hymn, “The voice that breathed o’er Eden,” was sung by the choir of the church during the service, and Mr Burton Nye played Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” as the bridal party left the sacred building. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Mill House. During the afternoon Mr and Mrs Baron left for the Isle of Wight. The bride’s travelling dress was of brown cloth, trimmed with fur, with hat to match. The honeymoon is being spent at Ventnor, and on its conclusion the newly-married couple will take up their residence at Ponders End. The wedding presents received were very numerous, and were of a handsome and costly kind. In honour of the marriage the workmen - to the number of thirty-four - employed at Mr Wright’s mills enjoyed a liberally-provided supper on Wednesday. After her wedding, Jessie Irene and George moved into the East Mill House. She had two children, Irene May born on 22 May 1893 and Evelyn on 29 February 1896. Whilst she was pregnant with her third child she got appendicitis. The doctors could not operate and peritonitis set in. She died tragically on 6 May 1902 at 29 years old together with the unborn child. The two daughters, Irene and Evelyn went to live with their grandmother, Matilda in the Mill House and they were brought up there until adulthood. Their father Charles Baron moved to Hitchin and lived in the house which is now Hitchin Library. Later he re-married and his wife Sally (Sarah Ann Smart) had a son George Charles Smart and daughter Muriel Annie.
