In the book "A Foot on Three Daisies" the house they lived in was one of three cottages known as the Old Royal Oak, and by 1841 had become a beer house run by James (known as the Younger).

1841 aged 50, living at Little Green with his wife Charlotte 55, sons George 20, William 15 and Thomas 14.

1851 aged 62, living at Little Green with his wife Charlotte 63 and grandson Samuel Crawley 15. 1861 aged 74, living with his wife Charlotte 75, Pirton village.
