Notes about David Burton

Was hired at a statute fair at Luton and came to Pirton about 1813 and lived in a barn (a bothy) on the farm where he worked for Thomas Kingsley, until he married Mary Burgess, who was a servant at Highdown. By 1851 they had moved into Rose Cottage, originally a small timber framed farmhouse of 17th century origin, divided into two cottages. It was described as "a convenient dwelling house part brick, part rough cast, and tiled.............one room below, pantry, oven and two chambers......." SOURCE A Foot On Three Daisies. 1841 aged 45, living at Little Green with his wife Mary 41 and children Maria 11, Jane 8, Caroline 6, Frederick 4 and Amos 1. 1851 aged 58, living at Little Green with his wife Mary 55 and children John 24, Jane 18, Caroline 16, Frederick 14, Amos 11 and Goliath 6. 1861, aged 70, living in Pirton village with his wife Mary 61, and 2 sons Frederick, 24 and Goliath 18.
